Capital District Key Club Convention Offers WHS Students Fellowship and Awards

Officers and members of the Walkersville chapter of Key Club traveled to Baltimore for a weekend of fun, fellowship, and celebration. The Capital District Key Club Convention kicked off on Friday, March 17th and continued through Sunday, March 19th. The weekend involved Division Caucus Sessions, Workshops, and an Award Session.

“DCON is an amazing opportunity to learn more about how we can improve our club and see what other clubs are doing in our district. It is super fun because you get to meet other individuals that are just as enthusiastic about service as you are,” said senior and President of Key Club, Harshi Patel.

Junior Editor Cameron Maxey agreed, “DCON was a great opportunity to learn how I can better serve my community and meet more people who have the same passion about service.”

When asked about her favorite part of the weekend, junior Vice President Kathy Krantz shared, “The keynote speaker was amazing and funny. He had a lot of great ideas that we could bring back to our club to help our school and community.”

All of the Key Club officers received recognition as distinguished officers, including Patel, Krantz, senior Treasurer Jackie Jimenez, junior Secretary Hannah Chavez, Maxey and junior Class Representative Anna McClatchie.

Walkersville’s Key Club was also recognized in the Gold group for membership growth, as they saw a 26-40% increase in membership this year.

Key Club received additional recognition for Early Bird Dues (dues received by Key Club Internation by 11/1/2016), and Trick or Treat for UNICEF (clubs contributing $250 or more to Key Club Internation by the deadline). Key Club also participated in the district project and the governor’s project and received recognition for their participation.

Key Club enjoyed a weekend of learning and fun, and are looking forward to using their new knowledge to continue improving their club.
